New to Yoga?
- Everyone can benefit from yoga - whatever your level of fitness or flexibility - whatever your body shape or life stage.
- Yoga will improve your strength and flexibility while also allowing you to relax and unwind.
- People often think they need to be flexible to do yoga -the opposite is true. People do yoga to gain flexibility.
- It really doesn't matter what you can and can't do. Yoga is not about forcing the fullest expression of a pose, but rather working gently with your breath and your own body's capabilities.
- Start with a beginners class which will show you the basics and will explain everything you need to know.
- There shouldn't be any competition in yoga - with yourself or with anyone else.
- Listen to your body. You will workout and challenge yourself, but it should never hurt. Don't force your body to do something it is not ready to do.
- If you need rest - take rest. Join in again when you are ready.
- Towards the end of the class you get to lie down and enjoy deep relaxation called Savasana..bliss :)
Useful tips before your first class:
- Wear comfortable clothing. Avoid wearing anything bulky as it will restrict movement.
- Drink plenty of water before and after class.
- It is advisable not to practice on a full stomach. Eat a light meal a few hours before your class.
- Bring your own yoga mat. You are welcome to use our spares but it is more hygienic to use your own.
- All other props are provided. (Belts, blocks, bolsters, blankets).
- Arrive about 5 mins early (10 mins for your first class) so you can register, acquire necessary props and settle in.
- Leave phones at home, but if you have to bring it with you ensure it is powered off.
- Be mindful of other yoga students and respectful of the yoga space.
- Make sure you inform your teacher of any pre-existing medical conditions or injuries so that poses can be adapted to suit.
- Challenge yourself, have fun and enjoy the process!
